Know the history of 400 years of Navy

Indian Navy was established by the East India Company in 1612 as “Indian Marine” which is currently known as Indian Navy. The full form of Indian Navy is Nautical Army of Volunteer Yeomen.

Indian Navy keeps an eye on the activities happening in the sea and works to keep the maritime borders of the country safe.

History is more than 400 years old

Let us tell you that the history of the Indian Navy is 412 years old. It was first established by the East India Company in the year 1612 under the name “Indian Marine”.

After this, in the year 1685, its name was changed to “Bombay Marine”. This name has been used till the year 1830. A few years later, on 8 September 1934, the Indian Naval Discipline Act was passed and under this the “Royal Indian Navy” was formed.

Let us tell you that during the Second World War, the Indian Navy was expanded by the British and the number of its soldiers reached 30 thousand. But after independence, the country was divided and during this one-third of the number went to Pakistan.
